This is timeless, Clancy, while also commenting a great deal on the passage of time and the difference in generations. Love pretty much builds a bridge beyond all of it. I'm glad she has one son who'll visit her on Mother's Day. He's quite a fellow. Awesome post, Clancy.
Beautiful, Clancy. My dad is the closest thing. I have to a mom anymore, and just yesterday I had to help him remove a scammy popup ad blocker from his browser that kept popping up. He wasn’t sure how it got there but he just wanted to return to the good old days watching political fear porn on YouTube.
I miss my mom and this was a nice reminder. I like to think that if she were still around, she’d be banging it out on her Selectric.
This is so beautifully written. It brought back memories of trying to explain the magic of an iPad to my mother, who never quite grasped the leap from a tethered tower. But oh, she could sooth my soul when I felt broken. Treasure these precious years with her. Contentment is underrated.
Very sweet:) Also, the following line applies to so many people, and I gotta say, hard to argue with: "She was already old enough to have experienced as much of it as she wanted, and decidedly had her fill."
thanks Stephanie, always appreciate your readership.

I feel like, while it might seem hard to argue with, it's in direct contradiction with a lot of the zeitgeist today. but that's alright! moms are allowed!!
I liked the way you built the piece around computers and the 1's and 0's, ending with that fantastic last paragraph and last line, Clancy. My ninety-seven year old mother gave up on computers years ago, but she does text on her cell phone, sort of. Your mother sounds like a contented person, indeed.
I can't tell you how much I relate to this story. I have been the IT help desk for my mother for a very long time. Neither of my other siblings have any level of patience to answer her questions so she comes to me.
At one point, I had to get a Yahoo email address so I could log in while on the phone with her and see how they had reformatted the page in order to find where the moved the "attach" button.
Christa, thanks for reading. I write things people can relate to, or try to. that is a great compliment. kudos to you for being a great daughter and i hope your mom doesn’t have too many tech issues today!!
A lovely tribute to your beautiful mother, Clancy
thanks Sharron. not exactly my mom, but all moms for sure

Inside a mother’s old memory jar
The sweetest entry, yet now so far:
A wee boy goes to sleep
Hesperus tucks in his feet
And whispers: you are my evening star
