Just discovered your reviews for the first time. Such an act of generosity that you devote this amount of time to kind and thoughtful review of other peoples work. Truly inspiring Clancy. You are the best of us.
You capture exactly what I had hoped to do here when I joined Substack a week ago:
“I want to put in to Substack what I hope to get out of it, which is: a place for good literary fiction to find us all. “
Well, I appreciate all the help I can get. By the way, I did not realize how many stories and how frequently you’re putting them out there. That’s very impressive. A few times in the past I’ve been in the position of having to post a blog piece every week (nonfiction) in a professional capacity and it was a tremendously helpful discipline. Like, you just got to pull something out of your butt every week and it needs to be pretty good because they’re paying you for it….
haha well the weekly stories are/were free. but i have slowed down on those because it was killing me and the quality is just not there. but I am working on a lot of other projects right now that I hope you will enjoy.
Thanks JunkMan. I'm having trouble keeping up with these; they're essentially just a round up of my Notes I frequently post with a little bit of extra content. I'm glad you enjoyed; together, we are going to get there with fiction on Substack!
Thank you for this, Clancy. I gotta get you a sluice box, because you are out here panning for gold on Substack. Thank you for taking the time to bring us the best that's out there.
Another great roundup that I sadly likely won't get to fully appreciate at the moment.
Also, apologies for the blue skies. We're having an extended and very uncharacteristically stable summer in Melbourne. It'll crash soon and we'll descend into cold and rain, and then it'll be your turn up there.
Also, I forgot to say that I only recently (well, maybe couple of years ago) found out the word bothy. If you're into spooky stuff, there's a great BBC podcast called Uncanny that has lots of firsthand accounts from people in the UK and one of the best was of a guy hiking in Scotland who went to visit a bothy.
Thanks for the shoutout Clancy, always appreciate it.
I’m really hoping to post more fiction here in the coming months. I just finished the first draft of a short novel so most of my fiction juices were being spent on that rather than posting here.
And regardless of what the losers in office are doing, you and I will always be cool!
Thanks so much for including me in amongst your amazing finds! Great stories there. I am Australian but hate summer haha. South Australia gets stupid hot this time of year- I’m more comfortable with that blanket wrapped around me.

thanks Nathan, enjoy at your leisure. you know what, you're right, it's so close to spring here I might as well keep the world right-side-up for now!
Good plan.
